The ST1 Pre-On-Call Assessment (SPOCA) is an emergency radiology competency assessment developed by the London School of Clinical Radiology to support the assessment of whether trainees are ready and suitable to undertake on-call work. It forms one part of the wider assessment of trainees’ readiness and suitability for starting on the on-call rota, alongside other assessments and considerations.
Since 2022, the London School has delivered SPOCA through the RAIQC platform. The examination consists of 20 emergency radiology cases covering the presentations trainees are most likely to encounter early in their careers. It has supported almost 300 trainees across five annual examination cycles.
Using RAIQC, trainees access real clinical images through an integrated medical image viewer, allowing them to review cases in an environment that closely reflects routine reporting practice. As the platform is entirely browser-based, training and assessments can be delivered without dedicated PACS workstations or software installations.
For faculty, RAIQC provides a simple way to create and manage assessments, enrol trainees, monitor progress, and automatically capture assessment results, reducing the administrative burden of delivering large-scale training.
